When: | Saturday, May 10th |
Time: | Meet 8:00-8:15. Catch tram up @8:15-8:30. Start hiking 8:30-9:00 |
Duration: | Hours- ? Miles- ? |
Location: | Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Lobby |
What you need: | Walking/Hiking shoes, backpack, plenty of water, plenty of food, sunglasses!, sunscreen, bug repellent (maybe) |
What you need to know: | You need to know, there is too much SNOW! Unfortunately, it hasn't been hot enough to melt the tons of snow up there, so we will not get to the summit on this day. We will enjoy the tram ride up, and they say that the trail is fairly clear to Round Valley, which is 2.1 miles out. So we can still get a good hike in. Bring sunglasses to avoid snow blindness, it will be very bright up there, plus we'll all look too cool for school. |
Other Information: | The tram is $22.00 up and back. If you've been a dedicated member of the 3 peaks group (and if you've brought your sunglasses!) you will receive a $21.00 discount on your ticket. If you haven't been so dedicated to the 3 peaks group, stand out front with your sunglasses on and hold a tin cup out. <---joke by the way, you know, ha ha. |
Directions: | Check out the tram website for directions (the Mapquest part doesn't seem to work). Email me or call 951-323-9089 if you need more specifics. Palm Springs Aerial Tramway |
Carpool/Meet Spot | I'm going to have breakfast here at 6:00am, it's right off the 10. You're welcome to join me, or get here by 7am if you want a ride, or can take someone out. Bob's Big Boy |
GREAT JOB HIKERS! 2 down, 1 to go! Despite being tired, sore, bruised, cut, poked, scratched, swollen, and a bit dehydrated, all of us made it to the summit, and it was overall a great day.

The group shot for this hike was taken in the lobby for the Palm Springs Aerial Tram. Megan & Aaron actually just missed the shot by a couple minutes, and the group had already taken the first Tram up, but Dan stayed behind and good 'ol Photoshop did the trick. 2 people not in the shot were Christina and Alicia, who we had met at the Mt. Baldy summit hike, and suggested they join us. They did, and proved to be very welcome members of the group. Thanks for coming ladies! |

The 5 of us headed out to catch the rest of the group. In front, Christina, then Alicia, Megan & Aaron. The trail was nice here, no snow......yet. |

Another creek crossing, this time on double logs.

Megan wanted to do cartwheels across, but I talked her out of it.

Aaron was chomping at the bit to be the first to the summit even though the group had a 30-40 minute head start, so he kicked in his turbo......and was the first to the summit.

We caught the rest of the group, and found that there was more snow early on the trail than expected.

When I called the Ranger Station for info on trail conditions, they said the trail was clear for the first 3-4 miles.......we found out they LIED! |

Some of the group moving through the snow. How many people can you find? And where is that pesky Waldo?

The fast hikers waited for everyone at the Round Valley junction, which made for a great group shot opportunity.
