Bonus Hikes

San Jacinto Saturday, May 24th
My brother and I completed Mt. San Jacinto successfully. We took the first tram car up and started hiking at 8:20. There was a lot of snow from the night before, but luckily we met up with an experienced San Jacinto regular and he led us up a shortcut about halfway to the summit. We carried on in the dense clouds, and made the summit by 11:30.

The weather wasn't looking too good from the freeway in Banning.Once we got off the tram, I had my brother Steve strike a typical hiker pose.
When we started out, the sun was trying to peek through, and things were looking good, not a lot of snow on the trail. We caught up to a local just in time as he was headed off the trail on a short cut.
My famous self portrait/get the hiker behind me in the picture. He led us up into the winter wonderland, it was awesome at this point, as you can see.
Our guide had enough fun, so we carried on, Steve checking animal tracks along the way.Getting to the emergency cabin near the summit was a little different conditions than 2 weeks earlier with the group.

San Gorgonio Sunday, May 25th
This hike/climb kicked both our butts! There was snow pretty much the whole way, and it really slowed us down, and made us work harder (since we didn't have crampons). We left at 5:20, got to the summit @11:30, and got back to the cars at 4:40.
The trail up at first was clear of snow, but there was a lot of crunch ice.Once we got up higher though, the trail wasn't clear of snow anymore. This is coming out of High Creek Camp.
The view of San Jacinto peeking out of the clouds was awesome. The last section up to the summit ridge was a bit tougher with snow.
Some spots we kicked our own steps, but mostly there were a few people who had gone up and had tramped down a bit of a trail. Finally on the summit ridge, Dan with his tongue wagging.
Steve with the summit in sight. Once I made it to here, I knew I was good for the 3 in 3 days.

Baldy Monday, May 26th
Tah-Dah. 3 peaks in 3 days! Piece of cake......not. We did it, and we're ok. Thanks to my brother steve who was born part lizard, mountain lion, bighorn sheep, we were up and back off Baldy in less than 4 hours.
Steve almost fell to his death, but I said, "Wait, that'll make a great shot!" Then I strolled over and lent him a hand, saving his life just in the nick of time.
Then he took a majestic pose on his third summit in 3 days.
Dan the man signaling the end to his 3 summits in 3 days. Mt. San Gorgonio on the left, and Mt. San Jacinto on the right, peaking out of the clouds.
