Zuma Canyon, Malibu- 4/19/09

This was a great workout hike, and a fun group to hike with. It was a bit warm, and there were critters (rattlesnake), and ticks to 'deal' with, but overall, it was worth the drive for me for the views, the people, and the workout. I had planned on doing Mt. Baldy afterwards, but the hike went a little longer, and I hadn't planned on the traffic on PCH, so I didn't get to the Ski lifts until @4:30, and didn't start hiking until 4:50. I'll be on Baldy next week though, this time via the ski hut trail (my first time).

Organizer Bob, pointing out the area and our route.
Starting out....I don't think we realized how hot it was going to get at this point.
There was a decent breeze here, overlooking the ocean.
This was where it started to 'feel' hot. And, for 'just' a fire road, it was a GREAT workout!
A bit of a breather here, and Bob pointed out some islands in view, and the local cities, and Zuma Beach.
I love it!

Getting to the top of the ski runs out of Baldy Notch, things were looking ok, the water was running from melting snow.
But then it quickly turned to this!
And I had worn my tennis shoes just cause I didn't feel like changing into the hikers again.
I went up in the snow about 10 minutes, but it was going to take too long, so I turned around.
I look pretty unhappy, but I really didn't mind getting home by 7:30, instead of 10pm on a worknight. Thank goodness I hadn't taken the ski hut trail!
